Event Details

The Look Listen Change consortium is training a number of young people from the Youth4U – Young Inspectors programme to act as media spokespeople.  Media spokespeople may get involved in:

  • Communicating directly to journalists about their experiences and achievements
  • Explaining the benefits of the programme to others as ‘ambassadors’.

The benefits to young people of attending the training include:

  • Confidence-boosting and improvement in communication skills
  • Something amazing for their CV.

In terms of the direct benefit to you and your group, having a media-trained young person available when your local authority liaises with the local press should generate a lot more coverage, assisting you with recruitment and generating interest locally.

We have a limited number of free places for this media training available, worth over £200 each, so we are asking you to nominate the member or members of your group that you think could make the most of the chance.  In your application, it is important that you explain clearly why the young person you are nominating has the potential to be a media spokesperson.  In addition we are keen that young people from different backgrounds and locations have the opportunity to take part.  Our selection will take all of these things into account.

Young people likely to enjoy being a media spokespeople are enthusiastic, full of ideas and committed to taking their Youth 4U experience to the next level.  They need to be prepared to offer their time as a media spokesperson on a volunteer basis.   Please talk to the group about this opportunity and get feedback from the young people in order to asses who would be interested.

Programme partners, KIDS are ensuring that the training is inclusive and can arrange for specialist support for young disabled people on the day if needed.  Following the training, KIDS can assist with ensuring that individual requirements and preferences are taken into account, and will be available to ensure that communications requirements relating young disabled people are met.

British Youth Council

The British Youth Council, as the national youth council of the UK, aims to connect with our member organisations and networks of local youth councils, to empower young people aged 25 and under, wherever they are from, to have a say and be heard. We aim to help them to participate in decisions that affect them; have a voice and campaign on issues they believe in, inspire them to have a positive impact, and gain recognition for their positive contribution to communities, society and the world.
